Korean phone maker Samsung has plenty to smile about. Despite the fact that the apple iPhone 4 managed to snag over 1.7 million sales, the Samsung Wave smart phone still managed to attract enough users.
According to Samsung, they just managed to sell over a million units worldwide; a big step for the Bada operating system. Despite the impressive hardware specs and the stylish looking handset, there was plenty of doubt as to whether the handset would succeed with a new mobile platform that was basically an unknown OS to many.
The Bada operating system is a Linux based mobile platform that offers plenty of Samsung’s special features, a custom user interface and plenty of new apps. Samsung has been certain to get plenty of developer support for the new OS –though there are worries that this support might only be present for the early months of the Bada, and it may wane in the coming months.
The S8500 Wave smart phone is a pretty great handset on its own. The super AMOLED touch screen is quickly proving to be a great competition even for the newly released Apple iPhone 4 with its HD display. Up close, the quality if images and visuals on the two devices are nearly identical, with Samsung’s technology being much faster and easier to manufacture –super AMOLED might just be the new standard the industry has been waiting for. At 3.5 inches, this 480 x 800 resolution touch screen serves as the primary user input for the Wave.
The handset also runs on an ARM Cortex A8 CPU clocked at 1GHz, this means that apps and phone functions will be able to load and run smoothly without significant slowdowns are delays. It also keeps the phone on par with even the latest Android devices as well.
