With product placement and brand awareness being such big business, and mobile phone manufacturers and electronics giants taking particularly well to the use of such placements, it’s no longer surprising to see the latest models of mobile phone appear in some of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters. While Apple reportedly has the whole product placement market wrapped up thanks to one of the most recognisable logos in the world, Nokia had ruled the roost with mobile phone placements.

1: Casino Royale – Sony Ericsson K800i
James Bond films are renowned for their use of innovative gadgets but the mobile phone is featured in surprisingly few (perhaps not that surprising really). The K800i and K709 were both used in Casino Royale by Bond actor Daniel Craig. Sony Ericsson special editions were available to the public and included features like interviews with the stars and movie trailers.
2: Quantum Of Solace – Sony Ericsson C902
Another Bond film and another Sony Ericsson. The Sony Ercisson C902 Cybershot is used by Daniel Craig to collect evidence, take photographs, and record footage. Bond uses a titanium silver version of the phone.
3: The Da Vinci Code – Sony Ercisson W850i
Months before its public release, the Sony Ercisson W850i was featured in the Da Vinci Code. The simple looking phone wasn’t really all that much to write home about but it did manage to gets its picture in one of the biggest films for several years and rounds off our list of Sony Ercisson phones to have featured in Hollywood blockbusters.
4: Bourne Ultimatum – Nokia N93
Jason Bourne was never quite as well equipped as Bond but he wasn’t usually left wanting in terms of the mobile phones he was able to acquire or procure through one means or another. He used the Nokia N93 throughout the awesome Bourne Ultimatum film.
5: The Matrix – Nokia 7110
Arguably one of the earlier uses of modern mobile phones in movies and also possibly one of the greatest; the Nokia 7110 flip phone was used by Neo and gained a cult following for its use in the film and its ultra-cool stylings.
6: Wanted – Nokia N97
The film might be better known for Angelina Jolie climbing out of a wax bath or for the fact that the main characters could bend bullets but it also featured the Nokia N97 smartphone in various scenes throughout the film. A weird but great movie by all accounts but a phone that fit perfectly with the script and storyline.
7: Transfomers – Nokia N93i
Yet another Nokia making its way into a major blockbuster, the Nokia N93i featured in this movie version of the classic kid’s cartoon. While the N93i is almost certainly packed with features, the special Transformers limited edition never quite turned into a robot in real life in the same way it did in the film.
8: Charlies Angels – Nokia 8210
OK, so the film was really only a good excuse for blokes to watch the likes of Drew Barrymore leaping around in very tight clothing but it also featured the last in our line up of Nokia handsets. The 8210 was used in various parts of the film and there was no secret made of the fact that it was a Nokia.
9: The Lightning Thief – iPhone
In all honesty, it’s possible to find hundreds of TV shows and Hollywood blockbusters that feature the iPhone in abundance but we’re not sure there are any in which it features with quite such gleeful abandon. The iPhone product placement for Percy Jackson And The Olympians: The Lightning Thief (to give it its full title) is bordering on the ridiculous so takes the choice for iPhone product placement.
10: Lethal Weapon – The Brick
This is arguably the first ever appearance of a cell phone or mobile phone in a movie saw Danny Glover’s character Sergeant Murtagh using a Brick Phone to make a call. Another massive hit in the same year (1987) Wall Street saw Michael Douglas using the same phone.
That wraps up 10 phones that have been featured in films, can you think of any other blatant product placements? Which is the one you remember best?
