BlackBerry Torch 9800 Deals Arriving in UK in October

August 24th, 2010 by Caroline

The slider smartphone from RIM is set for UK release this October – according to an online retailer, anyway.

Play.com states the new BlackBerry is “due for release on 25/10/2010” and you can get hold of SIM-free Torch 9800 deals for £479.99. The handset has also been spotted on eXpansys for £569.99 unlocked.

Neither the launch date nor price has been confirmed by RIM. We know that in the UK, Orange, O2 and 3 will offer the Torch on contract and PAYG options, but these network providers have not provided any tariff details so far, either.

The Torch is the first BlackBerry with a slide-down QWERTY, and the first to feature a touchscreen-QWERTY combination. Although the Storm and the Storm 2 have touch-sensitive screens, these are “clickable” rather than “proper” touchscreens. Thr Torch 9800 comes with a 3.2 inch touchscreen, an optical trackpad and full slide-down QWERTY keyboard, so navigation on the phone is pretty effortless – and the quality build ensures you can operate the device with one hand when it’s open and closed.

This new BlackBerry also debuts the BB OS 6, the latest version of the BlackBerry platform.  The BB OS 6 promises a faster and more seamless phone experience with extra support for multi-tasking and an enhanced browser. The Torch also comes with social networking integration and improved media features, widening its appeal beyond the BlackBerry’s standard professional audience. For example, there is media sync software onboard, letting you merge all your music and photos on the handset; and the inbuilt camera comes with 5-megapixels and a flash.

Do you like the look of the new BlackBerry Torch? We’d love to hear your views on the newest BlackBerry, which launched in the US earlier this month. Share your thoughts with us over in our Torch 9800 ratings section.
