If you care about the environment and want a mobile phone with green credentials, you may want to consider Sony Ericsson Elm deals because O2 has crowned the phone number one in its green scheme.
The first green rating system for mobile phones to be launched in the UK, O2’s Eco Rating scheme awarded the Elm 4.3 out of 5. This makes it the most sustainable handset – out of the 65 models that took part in the voluntary initiative.
Mats Pellbäck Scharp, head of corporate sustainability at Sony Ericsson said: “Sony Ericsson is committed to delivering products with the best possible environmental performance in the industry. That’s why we’re pleased the Sony Ericsson Elm phone has been rated the most sustainable mobile phone in the industry. We fully support the new O2 Eco rating system – through initiatives such as this, consumers have the information they need to make informed green choices.”
Alongside Sony Ericsson, LG, HTC, Nokia, Samsung and Palm also took part in the O2 green scheme. Apple decided against entering its iPhone and RIM has said it will enter its BlackBerry phones next year.
The Elm is part of Sony Ericsson’s GreenHeart range of handsets. These phones have been designed to reduce their environmental impact, and steps are taken to reduce the CO2 emissions of the devices by 15%. These include an in-phone manual instead of the standard paper one; using recycled plastics and an energy-efficient display. The Aspen and the Hazel are also GreenHeart phones.
