iPhones and Facebook: the Real Numbers of Social Networking

August 30th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

Apple’s iconic iPhone and the undeniably successful social networking site Facebook are two elements that simply bring up a formula for success.

According to a recent report, there are around 44 million users of the Facebook social networking app for the Apple iOS system. Many believe that a vast majority of the applications are installed in iPhone devices while the rest are spread across users of the iPod Touch and iPad touch screen tablet.

No matter how you run the figures, 44 million is a huge demographic and that target market alone is enough to convince many folks that Apple i-series of devices is indeed the way to go. While Apple has been facing many criticisms and issues over the past few months, one cannot forget how successful the Cupertino based company truly is.

There are however, certain issues about the number crunching that is hard to pin down –primarily, which facet is responsible for which. After all, it has been said by some reports that the success of the iPhone is due to the availability of the Facebook app, others say that the opposite is true. In both cases, one would have to agree that the social networking app and Apple smart phone are mutually benefiting from each other’s presence.

Now, with faster access channels for Facebook and new features such as ‘locations’, iPhone users are finding more and more reasons to use the social networking feature.

With that said, what does the future hold in store for the mobile phone industry? Obviously, Apple is not the only phone maker with a handset that can access Facebook; Google’s Android OS, RIM’s BlackBerry OS and other platforms also have designs with Facebook in mind.

And until a newer, more successful social networking site appears (which is unlikely), then we can all expect to see plenty more of Facebook related features being integrated on our mobile phones.
