Motorola Milestone: 2.2 Froyo Update Soon

August 3rd, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

It seems that our neighbors in Germany are getting Froyo updates being confirmed one after the other. According to a recent news article, the Motorola Milestone (also known as the DROID) has been confirmed to be getting an Android 2.2 Froyo update this coming September in Germany. This means that it is likely that an update for the OS here in the UK is definitely coming and some are even hoping for a slightly earlier launch of the update.

This is because the source article also states that the 2.2 Froyo update for the HTC Desire is coming on August, which is slightly delayed as compared to the UK release –which was near the end of last month. This places the possibility that the Froyo for Milestone will be arriving on store shelves by the end of August.

For those wondering, the new OS from Google sports plenty of impressive new features such as being able to turn the handset into a WiFi hotspot. Google also added in better exchange support for business users and of course, plenty of new app features and Android Market enhancements.

But if we had to name our favorite thing with the new OS, it would be the speed boost. Google was certainly not kidding when they announced that the user interface and phone performance would be sped up just by a single update. Apparently, this is thanks to an all new set of APIs and management tools for resources (such as kernel memory) which frees up plenty of resources for the handset when it comes to handling apps and other phone features.

The UI and the phone processes are about 2 to 3 times faster than usual. Web browsing has also been updated with new Java script handler, browsing is reported to be about 3 to 5 times better than ever.
