Nokia N9 to Use Qualcomm CPU

August 25th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

It is interesting to hear that the upcoming Nokia N9 smart phone might end up using Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon processor. The announcement just came out recently after a recent revelation of what might be the phone’s final technical specifications.

The device is set to be the very first smart phone in the work with the MeeGo operating system. For those not familiar with the platform, the MeeGo operating system is a new mobile platform that has been developed by Nokia and Intel.

Last year, Nokia was working on the Maemo operating system, while the Intel team had been focusing on Moblin. The two teams decided to pool their efforts together and develop an all new mobile platform: the MeeGo. Just a while ago, a video of the MeeGo has been uploaded on the internet and from the looks of it the platform will be getting a 3D user interface.

Intel’s decision to make the MeeGo non-exclusive to Atom CPU is considered to be a major class act and the fact that the N9 will be using the Qualcomm made Snapdragon chip is a testament to Intel’s dedication to make the new mobile platform as successful as possible.

The device is also reported to be sporting a 4 inch WVGA capacitive touch screen display and a 5 mega pixel camera with 720p HD video recording capability.

In other Nokia news, the N8 smart phone, which will be running the Symbian^3 operating system is delayed to a possible launch date this coming October. With the Nokia N9 due to come out on December, many feel that the N8’s late entry will certainly hurt sales, especially when the original launch window for the smart phone was supposed to be for last April.
