While the internet may appear to be awash with Nokia-related news as a result of Nokia World currently taking place in London, we have some Samsung news for you.
The Samsung Galaxy Apollo, a low-cost Android, is now available on T-Mobile UK. The handset measures 114 x 55 x 13mm and weighs 109g, making it both easy to use and to carry around with you.
The network provider states that the phone’s 3.2 inch screen provides “a superb view of your photos, videos and websites, and you can whiz around the internet thanks to HSDPA and WiFi”. Although the inbuilt snapper cannot compete with high-end devices including the new Nokia C7’s 8-megapixel camera, the 3-megapixel camera with digital zoom is not bad for an affordable device – for example, contrast this with the iPhone 3G S which also has a 3-megapixel snapper and no flash.
As an Android, the Apollo comes with access to the Android Market so you can decorate the phone with the apps and features you like best. For communication, there is Swype technology onboard which means you just need to swipe your finger over the virtual keyboard to write messages and chat online. Once you get the hang of inputting data this way, you should find Swype faster than the standard one-key-at-a-time method.
Other features of the Galaxy Apollo include an MP3 player, FM radio and 3.5mm audio connector; and Samsung’s Social Hub. This Hub delivers all your messages from email, text, and online sites like Twitter and Facebook into one easy-to-read stream, so you can stay in touch with friends more easily. It works in a similar fashion to Motorola’s MotoBlur and HTC’s Friend Stream.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on this Samsung Android device, and you can leave comments on our Galaxy Apollo reviews page.
If you want the Galaxy Apollo on T-Mobile, the phone is free on £20/month 2-year contracts. The mobile phone is also available in the UK on Orange.
