At least we certainly have nothing to panic about. The analysts at Inforna were talking about Google’s mobile platform, the Android; not an army of cybernetic humanoids.
Anyway, it seems that many industry experts agree with the verdict –at the rate that Google’s open source operating system is growing, there is no doubt that the smart phone market will be saturated with it in a few years.
But unlike the previous era in which Nokia was reigning supreme, the era of Google seems a lot more promising. The mobile platform provides plenty of features and apps that would make users understand easily why the smart phone has become an integral part of human society.
Of course, the best way to get a glimpse of the future is by looking at what we already have now. Mobile phones such as the HTC Desire, Motorola Milestone, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, the Dell Streak and many other devices are showing us how varied and specific Android handsets can be.
The fact that Google’s platform is also being used by a wide array of mobile phones, manufacturers also shows a lot of promise for the platform –the Symbian, for the most part, was pretty much as a Nokia staple. This meant that the phones made for the OS were limited in variety in certain aspects.
The Android operating system however, is not without its competitors. The Apple iOS, the upcoming Windows Phone 7 mobile platform, the BlackBerry OS and even the newer versions of the Symbian OS (Symbian^3 and the upcoming ^4) also have their own following in the mobile phone industry,
While Google has managed to surpass the iPhone iOS, it still has a long way before it outnumbers the Symbian platform –and in that time, other platforms are also going to be updated and improved, making the Android’s climb a lot tougher than one would expect.
