Although still really in the rumour phase of its existence, Acer’s newest device has taken a step closer to reality thanks to a scoop by the guys over on Electricpig.co.uk.
The site states: An Acer UK spokesperson confirmed to us that the handset, which features a metal backplate, will run Android 2.2 Froyo, and will be on sale at the end of October.
This high-end smartphone should come with support for the full range of connectivity including 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The touchscreen is thought to measure 3.6 inches and the Liquid Metal handset is expected to be powered by an 800MHz CPU – and all wrapped up in a sleek aluminium casing.
Acer is yet to confirm Liquid Metal deals will be arriving in the UK next month, but it is certainly looking more likely now. And we hope so, as this mobile phone has potential to be an exciting new addition to the market.
Following in the footsteps of previous Liquid phones – the Acer Liquid and Liquid E – we expect the Liquid Metal to have similar features and ability, combined with its contemporary design. Among the Liquid E’s attributes are a 3.5 inch capacitive screen, a 5-megapixel camera, Facebook integration and a document viewer. Running on the Android Froyo platform should mean the Liquid Metal has enhanced browsing function, multitasking and the option to act as a Wi-Fi hotspot.
If the Acer Liquid Metal does launch next month, it won’t be the only smartphone with an aluminium case – the long-awaited Nokia N8 has an anodized aluminium case and launches on the 1 October in the UK.
