Motorola Milestone XT720 Receives Update

September 21st, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

Motorola has just released a quick patch for the XT720 version of the Milestone Android smart phone. Some Android fans might be disappointed that this latest patch does not bring the Android 2.2 Froyo to the handset, but the new patch does manage to bring more speed to the phone.

This time, they are finally making the device live up to its name and providing it with the much needed speed boost that the phone has been waiting for.

The ‘720’ on the phone’s name was originally meant to stand for the speed of the device’s ARM Cortex A8 CPU. However, the device comes out of the box running only at a speed of 550 MHz. While it is not known why the phone is made under clocked, this latest patch fixes the problem in no time at all. This means that Milestone XT720 users can expect to get a better performance from their handsets after applying this patch.

The Motorola Milestone XT720 is a modified version of the highly successful Motorola Milestone which was released late last year. The phone featured a major first: an Android smart phone with a physical, slide out, QWERTY keyboard. This was a pretty big moment for Google’s mobile platform. This made the Milestone a very successful handset when it finally came out.

The more media center XT720, surprisingly, takes out the keyboard in favor of a better 8 mega pixel camera and HD video recording capabilities. It even sports a nice mini HDMI port for video output as well.

The 3.7 inch TFT capacitive touch screen display provides an excellent viewport for media and web browsing as well. The screen itself is responsive and sports an accelerometer, multi touch support and a proximity sensor.

The phone comes packed with the Android 2.1 Éclair though an update to the latest version, 2.2 Froyo –which promises a speed boost for the OS and the web browser, should be underway.
