No More iPhone 4 Bumpers by the End of September

September 14th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

As promised by Steve Jobs, all owners of the Apple iPhone 4 are entitled to a free iPhone bumper case. If you have already bought one, the charge will be refunded to your iTunes account. If you have not claimed the free bumper, then you must download the free app on the iTunes store to obtain one.

And as promised by Steve Jobs, the offer will only last until September 30. With the date quickly coming upon us, many iPhone owners are expected to take up the offer as soon as possible. In any case, the man has given, and soon, the man will be taking it away.

There are plenty of speculations as to why the 30th of September has been chosen as the main date for the end of free bumpers for all, but there are two that stand out to strong degree.

The first assumption is that by this time, a secondary version of the device would already be available. And while Apple may not be directly confirming it, many believe that the next batch of iPhone 4 handsets would not have as much issues regarding the antenna. The other theory that many strongly support is that Apple believes that by the end of September, folks would no longer mind the issue so much since it is not a hot topic anymore.

While it would be nice if the first scenario was true, it is likely that Apple might have simply been waiting for the issue to die down.

For those not familiar with the iPhone 4’s issues, the problem stems with the fact that the Apple handset was badly designed: it has an antenna with exposed vulnerability. When this specific spot was touched by the hand, it would deplete the device’s signal strength to zero –effectively dropping calls. This was made even worse by the fact that if you used your left hand to hold the device up to your ear, then you are likely to touch that weak spot.
