There are currently rumors and speculations that Nokia might actually be checking into the new Windows Phone 7 mobile platform from Microsoft as a new OS that the Finnish phone maker might start to support. Naturally, there are many contradictory statements to the concept (with the upcoming MeeGo platform alone being a huge explanation in itself), but when one steps back from all the details and looks at the big picture, one can realize how much potential good that the Windows Phone 7 can bring to Nokia –even for just one N-series handset. The WP7 mobile platform is promising to bring a lot of features and capabilities –and it is well within Nokia’s technological grasp to produce a handset that can pull off a Windows Phone experience perfectly. With the ever growing popularity and strength of the Google Android, such a move could help secure Nokia’s position on top spot in the food chain. Naturally, this is going to be a big juggling act for Nokia. For years, the company has concentrated deeply in the development and growth of the Symbian OS through the Symbian Foundation. And while they have venture into new proprietary operating systems such as last year’s Maemo and the upcoming MeeGo platform (with Intel’s Moblin developers), the phone maker already has a lot on its lap. But quantity alone does not ensure marketability –something that the Windows Phone 7 has a lot of when compared to Nokia’s other offerings. At this point, Nokia would have nothing to lose by coming out with a WP7 device. But it would even be wiser for them to create an Android smart phone as well. The bottom line here is that Nokia has already established that they are not strictly using the Symbian platform –the MeeGo and Maemo confirm this. But if they are willing to gamble the creation of a WP7 device, they can also come up with a good Android as well
