Yes, it’s official – not only has the newest tablet to rival the iPad been launched by Samsung but it will be available to buy at Vodafone in October.
Vodafone has announced the new Galaxy Tab will be offered in Europe from this October onwards. The network provider has not mentioned how much Samsung Galaxy Tab deals on Vodafone will cost but considering this an advanced device, we anticipate tariffs to be at the higher end of the smartphone and tablet market.
Patrick Chomet, Group Director of Terminals at Vodafone said: “Vodafone’s aim is to offer all customers new and attractive ways to enjoy mobile data, on the move, across a variety of devices. Adding tablets as part of our device range is a natural next step that gives customers an alternative way to enjoy great content and internet services. The GALAXY Tab is another showcase for Samsung’s innovation capabilities and we’re pleased to be introducing this across a number of our markets.”
The Samsung Galaxy Tab sports a 7 inch touchscreen and runs on the Google Android 2.2 platform. Measuring 190.09 x 120.45 x 11.98mm and weighing 380g, the Tab is lighter than its main competitor, the Apple iPad – although of course, it’s quite a bit smaller with a screen that is 2.7 inches smaller.
The Android tablet has the edge over the iPad when it comes to photography as the Tab comes with two cameras inbuilt whereas Apple’s tablet has no camera. The main camera has 3-megapixels, autofocus and LED flash, letting you capture moments in decent resolution. While this is not in the league of cameras on some high-end smartphones like the Nokia N8, the inclusion of a camera on a tablet device is a bonus – especially when it’s complemented by a front camera for video calls.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab, described by Samsung as an “outstanding smart media device”, comes with an array of features to keep you entertained, informed and in touch on the move. There is support for HD video playback, Swype technology for faster messaging and emailing, and either 16GB or 32GB of internal memory with up to 32GB of extra space available via a microSD card. Samsung has also installed several Hubs on the tablet – for example, there is a Social Hub for managing all your communications including on websites like Twitter and Facebook; and Music Hub and Media Hub for videos, music and more.
The Samsung tablet will be available next month. Are you tempted by the device? Share your views with us over in our Galaxy Tab customer ratings section.
