Compact and affordable, the nippy ZTE Racer is just one of many devices that ZTE has sold during 2010, helping the company reach the 1 million mark in UK sales.
In terms of global sales, ZTE sold 28 million handsets in the first half of this year, representing an impressive 30% increase. However, within Europe, the company has experienced an incredible 150% increase in sales, selling 1 million in the UK alone.
The ZTE Racer weighs just 100g and is a budget Android – but it sports the latest 2.1 version of the OS and is powered by a 600 MHz internal processor. All the usual Google features are onboard including Search and Maps, and there is support for both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity.
In total, ZTE has launched almost 10 Androids during 2010 which has helped boost its international sales – 17 million of the 28 million mobile phones sold worldwide were to outside China, where the company is based.
Techradar has reported the company said in its statement: “ZTE partnered with top operators in Europe, and received widespread recognition from clients through its work in custom-made Android smartphone handsets and WCDMA custom-made units. In the first half of 2010, ZTE launched nearly 10 types of Android handsets, including the Racer, Link and X850 models which have been adopted by H3G in the UK.”
ZTE added: “As a partner of Microsoft, ZTE is working closely on Windows Phone 7.0 product development after the global launch of the WM6.5 handset last October in Portugal and other countries.”
