Are you ready to flip-out over the newest BlackBerry smartphone?
A unique handset, the BlackBerry Style 9670 flip phone is braced to launch in the US at the end of this month – with the UK eagerly anticipated to get the device soon.
In case you find the flip-style a little surprising, RIM states there are currently 100 million people in the US who use flip phones, so the Style is meeting a demand. Are you tempted by the look of this premium BlackBerry?
With two displays – the external screen for checking messages when the mobile phone is closed and the main internal one for emailing and enjoying multimedia functions – the Style is effortless to use. And of course, as a flip phone, there is no risk of misdialling when the handset’s in your pocket or handbag.
The BlackBerry Style is similar to the Torch 9800 as it breaks away from the traditional BlackBerry form. There is a full QWERTY keyboard and trackpad, but the design is a first for RIM. Running on the BB OS 6, the smartphone comes with support for multitasking, the Webkit browser and Social Feeds app. Unlike the Torch, though, the main screen is not touch-sensitive.
RIM has already thought of this and the design of the Style enables easy use even without a touchscreen. For example, if you want to zoom-in on an image or web page, instead of the pinch-and-zoom function you use a mix of the Alt key and an up-and-down motion on the trackpad to zoom in and out.
Among the other features of the Style are a 5-megapixel camera with video, GPS and Wi-Fi. The high-end design ensures the flip mechanism is robust and that the phone is comfortable to hold and use.
David J. Smith, vice president of Product Management, Research In Motion said: “The flip form factor appeals to a very distinct but sizable set of consumers in the U.S., and we’re pleased to work with Sprint to bring this unique new BlackBerry smartphone to their customers. The new BlackBerry Style smartphone is a feature rich, premium BlackBerry smartphone that makes the perfect choice for Sprint customers who love the flip form factor but want advanced smartphone features and a full QWERTY keyboard.”
Launching in the US on 31 October, we’ll let you know as soon as BlackBerry Style offers are confirmed for the UK.
