Mobile News Update: Spark, and Samsung on Symbian

October 4th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

The HTC Spark has been hiding under the radar for so long that we have almost forgotten about it –until the latest specs sheets have been revealed along with several leaked images showcasing how the phone looks. While it may be odd to admit, this is one HTC device that simply looks a little too common. And while the same can be said about many other touch screen phones, the bad part is that the Spark looks a little too much like HTC’s other WP7 device, the Mondrian/Gold.

Still, that’s the only downside to this handset. Otherwise, you have got a pretty impressive smart phone running the latest Microsoft mobile platform.

The most promising things we see are integrated Sense user interface functions on the Windows Phone 7 OS –which is pretty much the opposite of having a custom UI, but we appreciate the extra features.

On a sadder note, owners of Samsung Symbian phones will have to make their last forays in the official online forums and other tech resources for Symbian as the Korean phone maker has officially announced that they are no longer supporting the mobile platform.

With continued lack of public interest in the operating system, it is no wonder that Samsung has officially cut all ties with the OS. There is currently a bit of public backlash over the announcement that even the forums will be shut down (as this would mean that Samsung is not only cutting off the Symbian, but consumers as well), though no retracting comments has been given by Samsung.

Considering the fact that Samsung already has had success with the Bada operating system and Google’s Android mobile platform, there really is no further room for the Symbian OS on Samsung’s lineup. The Korean phone maker has also confirmed that they will not just release the Cetus, but are also working on a whole line of Windows Phone 7 devices.
