Nokia: Not Quite Dead

October 19th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

Despite all the news reports about Sony and Samsung dropping the Symbian platform like a hot potato, and the study several months back showing that people are less interested in Nokia and Symbian devices as a whole, the fact of the matter is, the Finnish phone maker Nokia is still quite alive and kicking.

The upcoming launch of the N-series N8 which runs the Symbian^3 will certainly be something to keep an eye out for. In the meanwhile, the just launched Nokia C7 handset will be giving us all a look at how the new mobile platform has been designed and whether it will actually be good enough to take on its competitors in its latest incarnation.

Speaking of the Nokia C7, the device packs an OLED touch screen display with a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels, 8GB of storage and it is going to be available on a wide variety of network operators on November 1. Those who want the handset earlier might want to check out the official Nokia Online Store on the 25th this month as Nokia will be launching the device ahead of the networks and retailers.

Those who plan on getting the C7 or the N8 might want consider investing in the Digital Radio headset which has been designed specifically for the Symbian^3 platform. This fancy little gadget will get you radio access without taking away the phone experience. With a vast majority of UK residents listening to the radio frequently, this is an excellent add on to the mobile platform.

Despite all the support for the Symbian OS, it is hard to ignore the fact that Nokia’s new focus is the upcoming MeeGo operating system that the Finnish phone maker co-developed with Intel. Combining the best features of the Maemo and the Moblin, the MeeGo OS promises to be an OS worth looking forward to
