Sony Ericsson Launches Xperia X8 Deals

October 8th, 2010 by Caroline

The fourth Android device from Sony Ericsson has started shipping.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is sized between the X10 Mini and the original X10, and the most affordable of the Androids in this Xperia range.

With a UI similar to the X10 Mini, the Xperia X8 has a friendly and compact 3 inch screen. Each of the corners has a customisable shortcut so you can add your favourite website link or app for instant access. The X8 runs on a 600MHz processor and comes with full connectivity including 3G and Wi-Fi support. And there are plenty of apps onboard such as Google Maps and the Timescape function for mobile social networking.

The Xperia X8 features the Sony Ericsson Human Curvature design so not only is it small and light but comfortable to hold and use. The little mobile phone also comes with a music player and 3.2-megapixel snapper.

However, it’s a slight shame that the X8 runs on the Android 1.6 platform. Sony Ericsson’s Rikard Skogberg addresses this issue on the company’s blog: “Since much of the discussions here are about the forthcoming Android update I’d also like to make clear that also X8 is Android 1.6 from launch and will get the planned Android 2.1 update later this year. Final timing is not fully set yet but I expect it to be a bit later than for the X10 family.”

So the Xperia X8 will be updated to 2.1, but you may have to wait a little while to get this edition of the OS. Still, the device is attractive and UK X8 deals are anticipated to be reasonably priced.

Sony Ericsson has also started shipping the Cedar handset, part of its GreenHeart range of phones. A simple and affordable mobile, the Cedar comes with eco-friendly apps including the EcoMate and GreenCalculator.
