It has taken quite some time before Samsung has been able to confirm that their number one Android smart phone, the Galaxy S, will be getting an update to version 2.2 Froyo locally in the UK. The big news announcement came in over the vine just a while back along with the additional news that an update for Galaxy Apollo users will also be available soon.
The Android Froyo is an important version update for Éclair users as it adds new functions, Flash support and most importantly, a massive speed boost that takes advantage of OS’ better kernel memory management features.
Sadly, for those whose Galaxy S handsets are purchased under an operator plan, specific updates will still need to be used and thus a long wait is to be expected. Fortunately, it is expected that all UK network operators would be able to provide the Froyo update for the Galaxy S by the end of November.
The Froyo update is not just getting released in the UK alone; Sweden and Netherlands are expected to get Galaxy S Froyo in the next couple of weeks as well.
A new feature is also being added to the Samsung Galaxy S, aside from the 2.2 Froyo update, there is one other thing that we are excited about: WiFi Direct capabilities. This will allow the mobile phone to easily sync and connect with other WiFi devices without having to link over a bridging device like a router. This will allow users of Galaxy S handsets to easily share and access data with their friends and contacts as long as they are within the WiFi range of their devices.
The Samsung i9000 Galaxy S comes with a 1GHz CPU, a 5 mega pixel camera with HD recording and a 4 inch super AMOLED capacitive touch screen display.
