Mobile News Today: Pre 2, Apple and New Galaxy Phones

November 16th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

Samsung has confirmed that there are two new Galaxy handsets in the works. The first is a re-branding of the Samsung Captivate; in a cooperative effort with Giorgio Armani, a new fashion phone is coming to the high end tier: the Galaxy S i9010 (the original is an i9000). Despite being a US exclusive handset, this fashion phone is certain to attract plenty of importers.

The Galaxy 2 on the other hand is basically the same handset as the real Galaxy S. The only exception is that this new phone will be packing some serious hardware power: in the form of dual core processors. At the moment, it is still not confirmed if the rest of the hardware specs will remain the same, but as the device is slated for release next year, we might just see some improvements to the Galaxy S-grade specs before the device finally comes out.

In a listing of the most influential brands in the tech industry, Apple has taken yet another win from Google. While the two companies have consistently stayed on the top two spots for the past few years, Apple has managed to keep the number one spot from Google. While the margin was always reported to be slim, this year’s difference puts Apple at a slightly larger lead –thanks to the successful launch of the iPad and iPhone 4 several months back.

Palm’s Pre 2 smart phone is already available, but the only way to get the device is directly from the HP-Palm official website. No specific details have been given, but initial reports show that many network operators are uninterested in supporting the new phone. Even O2, which has been an exclusive partner for Palm, has expressed directly that they do not intend to add the Pre 2 to their existing lineup of Palm handsets.
