October 31 was set to be the official date for launch for Android 2.1 Éclair updates for the XPERIA series of handsets. Sony Ericsson’s very successful line of Android smart phones have been stuck with version 1.6 Donut for quite some time and users have been waiting for more than a month for updates to be released.
Originally, the Éclair updates were supposed to be launched last September but undisclosed issues prevent this from happening. Sony XPERIA devices to be affected by the update will include the X10, X10 Mini, and the X10 Mini Pro. The XPERIA X8 was not mentioned in the official update so users will have to stay posted for any additional information that Sony Ericsson may give out.
The Google Nexus 2 or rather the Nexus S will be launching this November 8. The surprise handset from Samsung has no known specs and the only other thing we know about it is that there is a high possibility that Google and Samsung may just pull a quick surprise by suddenly announcing that the handset will be packing Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The S in the Nexus name is associated with Samsung’s Galaxy S –hinting that the new Google branded smart phone may be patterned after Samsung’s very successful anti-iPhone handset.
Despite the original announcement at the I/O conference that 3.0 will be the Gingerbread, it seems that Google has changed their OS update plans a little. Aside from the that fact that the event will be held in New York, US, little else is known about Samsung and Google’s official plans.
Lastly, Acer has officially shown off the Liquid Metal. This Android smart phone will come out packed with 2.2 Froyo and the Acer Breeze UI. The device also supports HD video recording, a 5 mega pixel camera and all of the Android Froyo’s special features.
