The genius that helped shaped the world of desktop computers has taken the back seat when it comes to coming up with very innovative ideas as of late. Steve Wozniak –to whom Jobs will forever be indebted, may no longer be an active member of the tech industry, but he certainly knows the times and trends.
Steve Wozniak was recently interviewed by a Dutch newspaper company (De Telegraaf) and was asked to share his insights into the current mobile platform wars.
According to Wozniak, the Apple iOS will definitely be surpassed by the Android OS as a mobile platform –simply because the Android offers so much more. The open source mobile platform is able to handle a wide variety of file formats and can be customized to a great degree that each Android device can become a very personal handheld once a user invests enough time tweaking out all the options.
The man has not completely turned his back on Apple however, despite the fact that he has left the company for quite some time now. Wozniak still made it clear that while the Android OS provides plenty of features for users it is the Apple iOS that delivers the best in terms of quality and stability. He does note that with the continuous growth that Google has shown with each major version of the Android, it is likely that a later version would soon be able to reach the quality of the iOS 4 and as such, Apple is should never underestimate the competition.
When asked about the future of the industry, Wozniak is certain that the Android OS will dominate the field in every way. While the iOS would never lose in terms of quality, the overall approach, distribution and marketability of the Android is something that is difficult to surpass.
