Streak and Legend Updated, C7’s NFC

November 16th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

The Dell Streak and HTC Legend are getting much awaited Android OS updates.

According to Dell, the Streak touch screen smart phone will finally be getting that much awaited jump from 1.6 Donut to 2.2 Froyo. The Dell announcement has confirmed that the update will also be available to UK users. The only issue now is that an exact date has yet to be given. For those unfamiliar with the Streak, this Dell branded smart phone literally stands out from all its competitors thanks to the massive 5 inch touch screen display.

At 5 inches, this handset is practically being labeled as a mini tablet –and considering the fact that there are 7 inch touch screen devices; the nickname is pretty apt for the Streak. In any case, owners of the handset will simply have to wait it out for a bit before the update is finally made available.

The HTC Legend is also getting the much wanted Froyo update –despite initial news that this particular handset will not be getting past Android 2.1 Éclair in terms of updates. According to the initial plans, both the Legend and the Wildfire will be stuck with the older Éclair while only the Desire will be getting a Froyo update. Fortunately, HTC has decided to bring in better OS support for these two handsets. For those unfamiliar with the Legend, this handset is basically the upgraded version of HTC’s very successful Hero smart phone that was released last year.

Lastly, it seems that Nokia will be updating the OS on the Symbian powered C7 handset in order to activate the NFC technology that is already present in the device. Near field communications technology is expected to see application in a wide range of functions such as micro transactions and device connectivity. The update is expected to come out before early next year.
