Are HP and O2 on bad terms? No specific details have been given, but O2 UK’s official spokespersons have reported that the current Palm handset lineup under the network operator is already sufficient and that there is no need for them to offer the just launched Palm Pre 2.
For those wondering, this is a real jam for Palm fans as O2 UK is the only network that can sell the devices (aside from Palm themselves). This means that there is no way to the get the Pre 2 for free on a contract. While we are not certain how this will affect the exclusivity deal, for the moment, it is best assumed that the contract still prevents other operators from offering the Pre 2 even if O2 is not.
Considering that the last Palm handset to come out prior to the Pre 2 would have to be the Pixi and the original Pre, this move from O2 would really put Palm’s market performance on the down low. HP has invested quite a lot in acquiring Palm (as well as Palm’s technologies and patents), and they should really sort things out with O2.
Vodafone UK on the other hand, has announced that the HTC Desire Z Android smart phone is now officially available through their pay monthly plans. The QWERTY keyboard loaded smart phone has been able to grasp the attention of many Google fans as this is HTC’s first high end QWERTY device available.
For the most part, the Desire Z improves a lot on what the original Desire established. While the Desire HD focused on delivering a better media experience with an improved camera and better hardware recording, the Desire Z brings in a better keyboard and integration of messaging and social networking to get people more connected with their lives.
