Bada Turns 1, Wildfire Update and XPERIA 2.3 ROM

December 10th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

Delays are the biggest problem that Sony Ericsson now faces. After climbing and clawing their way back up the financial ladder, the Japanese Swedish phone maker now has to deal with getting their handsets updated as soon as possible. Currently, the XPERIA X10 series is known to be the most expensive Android devices that do not have an updated operating system.

In fact, these phones actually came out with the Android 1.6 Donut, the 2.0/2.1 Éclair update only arrived just recently for the X-series. Now, with the new update available, Sony Ericsson owners are still wondering if they will ever get an update to the 2.2 Froyo much less the new Gingerbread version at all. In any case, some well-intending hackers have managed to create a ROM for the current version of the XPERIA X10 showcasing none other than the Gingerbread OS running in a shell application. This is pretty impressive since it shows that the X10 has all the hardware needed to run the new OS.

In the meanwhile, HTC’s Wildfire is also playing a game of catch up. Hot on the heels of the recently confirmed update for the HTC Legend (which was not really a surprise, considering that many already expected it to arrive soon enough), HTC has confirmed that the Wildfire will definitely be getting an update to 2.2 Froyo.

Lastly, Samsung is happily celebrating the first year of the Bada operating system. While it was launched sometime last December, the device did not officially hit the store shelves until a couple of months later. In any case, the Bada is a proprietary open source operating system from the Korean phone make which focuses on providing users with connectivity and a wide app range. While the global sales of the Bada are not that high, it is certainly growing. Within Korea, the system is an outright success.
