Gigabyte Launches Dual-SIM Froyo Smartphone GSmart Rola Offers

December 13th, 2010 by Caroline

A brand new dual-SIM smartphone has been unveiled by Gigabyte, following the success of the GSmart S1205 handset.

The Gigabyte GSmart Rola smartphone runs on the Android 2.2 Froyo OS and is expected to be available from early in 2011 onwards. It will replace the original GSmart device, which runs on the Windows Mobile 6.5 platform, and bring the delights of dual-SIM ability to the Google operating system.

Apart from the fact it’s an Android, the Rola doesn’t have many standout features. There is support for Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth and GPS so you can stay in touch with ease, although only one SIM card is likely to support 3G – the other card will be for calling and texting. And the 3.2 inch screen is resistive. Needing more pressure than its capacitive counterparts, resistive screens are normally found on lower-end devices – although the price tag of this Gigabyte is thought to be just €175 / about £150 so it is affordable.

This smartphone will be powered by a 528MHz processor, has 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM. It will sport a 3-megapixel camera and house an FM radio.

Is a dual-SIM smartphone right for you? It would certainly save you having to carry two handsets with you, and let you make the most of different tariffs. And if it’s a dual-SIM Android you want, this would be worth a closer look. With Gigabyte GSmart Rola offers anticipated to be reasonably priced, this will no doubt widen its appeal.

Due for launch in early 2011 in “select regions”, we’ll keep you posted on whether this handset will be offered in the UK and confirm pricing details as soon as we can.
