Mobile News Round Up

December 13th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

Despite the initial announcements from Korean phone makers LG and Samsung, the Android 2.3 Gingerbread will be coming to both the LG Optimus One and the Samsung Galaxy S.

The past couple of days were filled with confusing updates as conflicting bits of information were coming from LG and Samsung’s various departments –some stating that the 2.3 Gingerbread will not reach the devices, others stating that the manufacturers are still looking into the matter. Now, some official news at last; and it is good news for all owners of the mentioned Android devices.

For the Galaxy S, some network operators are already confirming that they will be offering the update for Gingerbread pretty soon. MVNO 3 UK and T-Mobile have both confirmed that the 2.3 update will be available to Galaxy S under their networks. No word yet on when these updates will actually be available, but users should keep an eye out for the next few weeks.

Microsoft is also having a certain degree of success with the Windows Phone 7 mobile platform. Despite the fact that actual phone sales have been much lower than initially expected, the Silicon Valley giant is more than confident that the holiday sales are going to pick up. In any case, Microsoft has announced that developers of apps for the WP7 mobile platform will be receiving their payments by the end of January –slightly earlier than the originally planned February pay date, but we doubt that anyone would complain about being paid a week earlier than expected.

Apple has confirmed that the upcoming Apple iPad 2 will not only be packing a built in camera –but it will actually have two cameras. Much like modern smart phones, the dual camera setup will allow users to use video chat and similar features on the iPad 2. The Cupertino based company has also gotten a patent for a new form of technology that would allow smart phone users to share apps.
