RIM Makes Sales, Prepares New Tablet

December 20th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

The folks at Research in Motion have plenty of reasons to be happy and thankful for as the company releases its 2010 Q3 sales: giving the company a total of 40% more income than they did the last time.

This is a big step for RIM –whom many see as falling far behind the industry race. Indeed, while the BlackBerry brand may not be as well known as Apple’s iPhone nor the BB OS as innovative as the Google Android, the bottom line is that the Canada based phone maker has a solid place in the smart phone industry and that is one fact that is unlikely to change for a very long time.

According to reports, about 14.2 million BlackBerry devices have been shipped –with a vast majority of which seeing active use in the market. This is a testament not only to the niche that BlackBerry has carved for itself, but also the impressive balance of style and hardware that their handsets offer to consumers.

For the most part, smart phone users love BlackBerry phones when it comes to messaging. From instant messaging to SMS to social networking and other typing functions, BB devices are often packed with impressively ergonomic physical keyboards.

One new device coming from RIM that will not have a keyboard is the new BlackBerry Playbook touch screen tablet. This touch screen device looks a lot like those smaller Android tablet devices, and it makes use of a new platform, the QNX operating system. So far, initial reactions to the device are positive. If the initial rumors about the pricing are correct, this phone offers a very solid alternative to buying more expensive devices such as the Galaxy Tab or the iPad. Expect to see the Playbook on local store shelves on March next year.
