Samsung’s one-year anniversary of its Bada platform has been celebrated together with an optimistic forecast for the future of the Samsung operating system.
The current version of Bada is 1.2 and Samsung intends to launch version 2.0 during 2011. And with this new OS comes the forecast of 10 million Wave offers sold in the first half of next year.
The new Bada OS includes an array of new features including NFC (Near Field Communication) support. This is also found on the new Nexus S smartphone, which is manufactured by Samsung and branded by Google – and is the successor to the original Nexus One handset. NFC technology would enable NFC tags to be screened and read by the mobile phone.
Other improvements are a better user interface and home screen, SDK support for Linux and Mac, social networking integration and multitasking ability.
There is no word yet on whether the existing Wave models will get the Bada update when it happens next year. Once Samsung confirms either way, we’ll let you know.
There are a number of Wave phones currently on the market including the original Wave which sports a 3.3 inch Super AMOLED display for vibrant and crisp images. The Wave II was launched last month and has a slightly larger, 3.7 inch screen that uses Super Clear LCD technology.
There is also the Wave525 and Wave575 which both have a 3.2 inch display and a 3-megapixel snapper. The Wave533 is similar in terms of features but comes with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The Wave 723 is a little more distinctive in design thanks to its flip-up leather screen cover.
