A recently leaked bit of information from Chinese manufacturer Foxconn has pretty much confirmed that the Apple iPad 2 touch screen tablet will be coming this April. According to the report, the manufacturer will be churning out about 400 thousand to 600 thousand units of the device by the end of February, with production to continue until the launch period.
Apple is certain that the device will be selling like crazy once it hits the shelves and many of us are inclined to believe the same. The iPad 2 will be bringing users the joy of having a camera and also, improved performance. While there are reports that energy management has been streamlined, we are already impressed with the iPad’s 10 hour battery life.
Any extra improvements to that are simply icing on the cake. Naturally, the new Apple tablet will be bringing to users the full range of iTunes’ apps and features –a factor that rival Android will have a hard time competing with.
As to be expected, Flash support will still not be present in this Apple tablet.
Google on the other hand is not about the hand over a victory to Apple without a fight, and in the most recent D: Dive in Mobile event, Andy Rubin brought out an ace from his sleeve; the first true Android tablet. By true, we mean the first for-tablet Android device.
The developer has stated over a month ago that the Android OS (then in version 2.1 Éclair and 2.2 Froyo) was not made for use with tablet devices –Google has the Chrome OS for that, and even the new 2.3 Gingerbread was not designed for tablets. The new Android Honeycomb however, was specifically designed to also support larger touch screen devices.
So far, the only thing we can confirm is that the device comes straight from Motorola (possibly the Stingray), and that it makes use of NVIDIA’s new dual core 3D graphics CPU.
