Today’s Mobile News: Everything You Need to Know

December 9th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

For those of you planning to get the recently launched LG Optimus One P500, it might be a good time to hold on to your budget. The Korean phone maker, LG, has just confirmed that the device will be stuck in Android 2.2 Froyo. While this version of the OS is good, it will never be able to run the newly launched 2.3 Gingerbread update.

LG is now focusing on the use of its recently acquired VMware company and of course, engine. The system allows for two separate environments to be running –but one is independent of the other. Many believe that this is the first of many steps that LG plans to infiltrate the business market.

HTC’s Legend smart phone has been enjoying the 2.2 Froyo update from both Vodafone UK and Orange Mobile. Now, all releases of this impressive handset will be able to update to version 2.2 as well. HTC and Google have yet to confirm if the Gingerbread update will also be available for this device.

Speaking of HTC, they have just revealed a new 4G/WiMax handset, the HTC Knight. So far, we know very little of this new phone except for the fact that it looks pretty stunning –sans the pink casing of course. It is believed that the device will be launching by the 6th of January. Another handset has also been teased by HTC; however, it seems to be an AT&T exclusive for now. No word has been given if there will be a local UK launch.

ZTE is making a strong impact in the local mobile phone industry as sales for the handset maker has hit the 4 million mark this year –easily surpassing initial sales estimates internally. Thanks to the strong sales of ZTE’s low end devices and broadband units, the company seems set to be around in the local industry for quite some time.
