The first Walkman phone to feature a touch-sensitive screen has had its launch date pushed back to February 2011.
Originally scheduled to arrive on O2 and T-Mobile during this month, Sony Ericsson Yendo deals now won’t land until February next year.
A Dutch mobile news site has received official word from a Sony Ericsson executive that the worldwide release date is now a couple of months off. And the reason for this delay is that the company is currently not happy with the software.
Originally unveiled back in June, this Walkman mobile phone is compact and light. The Yendo’s UI is similar to the Sony Ericsson Android devices including the X10 and X10 Mini, and the home screen benefits from four corner shortcuts. You can add your favourite app, feature or website to each corner for opening instantly.
Although the features are fairly basic – a 2-megapixel camera, Google search, social networking integration, no support for 3G connectivity – the Yendo is designed for mobile music. The Walkman software is appealing. For example, there is the shake-to-shuffle function which lets you change tracks with a simple shake of the handset; songs available to browse in the PlayNow store; and the option to transfer all your songs from your PC to your phone using MediaGo. The internal memory is expandable too so space shouldn’t be an issue, no matter how large your music collection is.

Sony Ericsson isn’t the only manufacturer to have phones delayed recently as both Nokia’s E7 and Dell’s Venue Pro have encountered setbacks with their original release dates. The E7 will launch in early 2011, and the Venue Pro is now expected to be available in January.
