Which Windows Phone 7 handset are you most excited about? – Poll results in!

December 20th, 2010 by Liam

The launch of Microsoft’s latest mobile operating system, Windows Phone 7, was one of the biggest events in the mobile tech industry in the last quarter of this year. WP7 addressed the issues people saw with Microsoft’s previous offering, Windows Mobile 6.5, and was well received by critics the world over. However, we all know that a great OS isn’t enough, you need a great handset to back it up. So we asked you to vote on which of the new Windows Phone 7 handsets you were most excited to see. And the results are now in! Here are the winners, in order of excellence.

Runners up

Sharing 20% of the vote, the phones that missed out on a place in the top 3 were the HTC 7 Pro, HTC 7 Mozart, LG Optimus 7, HTC Trophy and LG Optimus 7Q (in order of votes received from most to least). As you can see, the HTC 7 Pro was the “best of the rest” and netted 7% of the total vote, while the LG Optimus 7Q disappointingly managed less than 1%! Some might be surprised to see 3 HTC handsets in the runners up section given the huge popularity of HTC handsets at the moment, but the story isn’t quite over for HTC. Here’s the Top 3:

3 – The Dell Venue Pro

Dell’s QWERTY keyboard packing slider phone managed to get itself 21% of the vote, securing third place in our poll. The Dell Venue Pro has possibly one of the most unique designs of all the Windows Phone 7 handsets. While portrait oriented QWERTY keyboards are not unheard of in phones (BlackBerry, anyone?), the slide out form factor of the Dell Venue Pro is certainly all its own. Whatever the reason, it gets the bronze medal.

2 – The HTC HD7

We told you the story wasn’t over for HTC and we weren’t kidding! HTC make up for 3 handsets in the runners up with a silver medal for the HTC HD7. The HD7 was always set to be HTC’s big hitter for Windows Phone 7. With a gorgeous 4.3” screen and an innovative kick stand for viewing comfort, this multi-media powerhouse scored 26% of the total vote. Unfortunately for HTC, it just missed out on the top spot to…

1 – The Samsung Omnia 7

That’s right, Samsung have come out on top again with a gold medal for the Samsung Omnia 7. The Omnia 7 has a slightly smaller screen than the HD7 at 4”, but it’s packing the all-important Super AMOLED technology that made the Galaxy S so popular. This means images are crisp and clear and colours are bright and vibrant. With a 1 GHz Qualcomm processor and a 5 megapixel camera the Omnia 7 doesn’t skimp on its other key features and managed an impressive 33% of the total vote, placing it in the illustrious position of Most Exciting Windows Phone 7 Handset!
