Dell Delays UK Launch of Venue Pro Offers until February

January 11th, 2011 by Caroline

Fans of the WP7-based Dell Venue Pro smartphone will be disappointed as the UK release date has been pushed back – again.

According to the online retailer Clove, the UK won’t get its first batch of Venue Pro phones until mid-February. And the reason for this delay now? It’s said to be “caused by a Microsoft issue with the MMS settings”.

In what is turning into a Nokia N8-like (delayed) launch, the Venue Pro was first introduced back in October 2010 alongside its fellow Windows Phone 7 devices. These include the Samsung Omnia 7, HTC HD7 and LG Optimus 7. Initially, the Dell Venue Pro UK offers launch date was given as November. And then December rolled around and the launch date was pushed back to January.

Can you wait another month for the Venue Pro? It is currently available on pre-order through O2, Orange and Vodafone on monthly contracts beginning at about £30 or SIM-free for about £440 – but the handset looks unlikely to materialise before February now.

When it does land, you’ll be able to enjoy the 4.1 inch AMOLED, Gorilla Glass protected, capacitive display and slide-down QWERTY keyboard. The design is premium and similar to the BlackBerry Torch smartphone, letting you message through both the screen and the physical keyboard. Internally, there are high-end features including a 5-megapixel camera, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, and Xbox Live gaming support.

In other Dell news, the company recently launched an Android-based equivalent to the Venue Pro in Hong Kong. The Dell Venue runs on Android rather than WP7 OS and lacks a QWERTY keyboard, but otherwise is the same device.

Once a confirmed UK launch date for the Dell Venue Pro is known, we’ll update you.
