Nokia N8 Software update available

January 19th, 2011 by Best Mobile Contracts

Nokia N8 customers have been anxiously awaiting a core update that would bring some much lacking features to the device, features that Nokia’s biggest competitors such as Blackberry, Samsung, Apple etc all have. But in a move that appears to be an appeasement to the anger of its customers, Nokia is releasing a minor update that should wet users appetites of what could come later on.

In the update comes Nokia DAB Radio which stands for Digital Audio Broadcast. According to Nokia, this offers much clearer reception as well as less interference from outside sources and an overall improved sound quality than analog radios.

There is a catch to the Nokia DAB Radio however. In order to use this service, an accessory will be required. The accessory is dubbed the “Nokia Digital Radio Headset” which will connect to the device via it’s USB on-the-go port. It should be also noted that your country will depend on if you can use this feature because DAB transmissions are not available in all countries.

Further enhancements to the phones software include the ability to add subtitles to videos played on the device as well as the ability to use the easy-to-install updates.

Because the Nokia N8, C7, C6-01 etc. are all Symbian^3 devices, it is highly likely that the update will make it out to those devices as well, though Nokia is not saying if or when such an update would be released if ever.

If you own a Nokia N8, you can receive the update by going to the “Sw Update” application on your Symbian^3 device. Hopefully, this will keep N8 owners quiet for a little bit longer until Nokia decides to keep true to their promise and bring around a major update to the software.
