Nokia N9 lives, Windows Phone 7 being tested

February 11th, 2011 by Best Mobile Contracts

Nokia’s new boss made it clear in no uncertain terms that the company needs to change its direction if it wants to continue to be the world leader in the manufacturing and sale of cellphones. Thanks to the direct words of said person we now have rumors that there is indeed a testing of Windows Phone 7 on Nokia’s devices and the latest leaks from Amazon and their Windows Phone 7 store would suggest that.

Not only that but thanks to Windows Phone 7 not so stellar sales, Microsoft and Nokia are both in the same boat as both companies are looking to regain their market dominance. That said, it would make sense that Microsoft and Nokia are in talks and it would even be more plausible that instead of canceling the Nokia N9, the device that has been on the lips of Nokia fans for quite some time now would not be killed, but instead receiving a whole new operating system.

According to the source, Nokia tested MeeGo on the device and found it to be highly unstable, in fact, according to the tipster, the software crashed “all the time.” That would explain the delay in bringing the world’s first MeeGo device to the market. However, the tipster went on to say that Nokia decided to run Windows Phone 7 on the phone and noticed that it worked smooth with few issues. Because of that, Nokia and Microsoft are working to fine tune the software for the release of said device.

We’ll know for sure in a few hours when Nokia and Microsoft hold a press conference at 10AM to announce what both companies have been doing for so long behind closed doors. This would not mark the first time these companies have collaborated before however so we would be none too surprised if we did see Windows Phone 7 on Nokia devices.
