It has long been rumored that Samsung would be releasing an updated version of the Galaxy Tab, one that takes full advantage of Google’s Android tablet OS, Honeycomb. It seems that such a tablet could have surfaced thanks to a new listing on Bluetooth.org which lists a device by the number of GT-P1003 which could be the sequel to the first generation Tab which Samsung plans to unveil at MWC in Barcelona later this month.
The device features Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and it was approved on January 28th 2011.
There has been no official word on specs so far but it is being rumored that the device would feature an updated Hummingbird processor, one that not only features a 1.2GHz clock speed, but dual core as well. Form factor is said to be that of the original Tab so it would be 7 inches and we’re hearing there will be an upgraded GPU in order to handle more HD content and most naturally take a lot of strain regarding Flash content from the CPU.
There are also rumours that more storage will be included, up to double that of the original Tab and the device will feature Samsung’s new “Super AMOLED Plus” screen.
Samsung announced a few days ago that it had shipped over 2 million units although there was no official word on how many of those devices ended up in customer’s hands. However, with their mobile unit selling over 80 million devices in the fourth quarter of last year and the tablet market taking off this year, we are pretty sure Samsung will be able to move more than a few of these upcoming units to eager customers. Now if only they can convince them that the Galaxy Tab 2 is better than the iPad 2.
