Samsung Wave 578 Announced at MWC

February 14th, 2011 by Liam

Samsung have announced their next Bada powered smartphone at MWC today: The Samsung Wave 578. A cursory glance at the specifications for the Wave 578 tells us that it’s likely to be a fairly standard mid-range handset, equipped with a 3.2” QWVGA screen and a basic 3.2 megapixel camera, along with a front facing camera for video calling. The Wave 578 does have two particular features that Samsung are talking up, though. Firstly, it will be the first Bada handset to come equipped with an NFC chip, allowing users to make payments in participating shops and cafes using their handsets. Secondly, the Wave 578 will also ship with a new typing system called “QuickType”, which will apparently be much faster than ordinary touchscreen typing. We’ll let you know how well it works when we get our hands on one!

Expect to see the Samsung Wave 578 available from May. So far only Orange have confirmed they’ll be stocking the handset, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more networks added to the list before the 578 is released.
