Top 10 iPhone Games Apps

February 18th, 2011 by Richard

The Apple iPhone can be used for doing a lot of cool things, and we’d be lying if we didn’t count playing games as one of them. Whether you play at night before drifting off to sleep or try and get a new high score between business meetings and power lunches we are pretty sure that you like a good iPhone game as much as us, so let’s look at the top 10.

1. Angry Birds. Oh, you knew it was going to be on the list so why not just put it on first and get it over with. Everyone in the world must have played this game by now at some point, and the sequel – Angry Birds 2 – is as eagerly awaited as anything involving birds and pigs is every likely to be. Lots of levels and great gameplay make this so addictive that putting down your iPhone can be a real challenge. It costs less than a pound to download.

2. Flick Kick Football. Just when you thought that all those years of playing Subbuteo was time wasted in your life along comes an iPad game which lets you flick your way to stardom again. The screen presents you with a defence and a keeper to beat and you do so by flicking the ball past or over them. Brilliantly simple and really addictive, this one also costs less than a quid and will keep you hooked for hours on end trying to hit the net.

3. Orbital. This game is a bit of a strange one and takes a bit of getting your head around to be honest. You shoot off orbs and they grow and grow and then show a number inside them. This is the number of times it needs to be hit by other orbs. It makes more sense when you play it to be honest. Oh, and it costs £1.49.

4. Real Racing. At three quid this is the most expensive game on the list but if you like classy and exciting racing games you won’t be complaining too much. There are a staggering 48 cars and an impressive 12 tracks to choose from and some smooth racing action.

5. Squareball. If you remember Breakout and Arkanoid and all those other games where you need to bat a ball repeatedly off bricks you will have a good idea what this £0.59 game is all about. Crazily addictive and madly annoying are just a couple of the phrases that spring to mind.

6. LilRacerz Pro Rally. This overhead view racing game with little cars reminds me of an old Spectrum or Nintendo game that I just can’t quite put a name to. Anyway, it costs £1.59 and gives you all you would expect from such a game. Good, clean racing fun.

7. Air Hockey Extreme. Any readers who frequented certain West of England amusement arcades in the early to mid 90s may have noticed a particularly handsome youth who played a mean game of air hockey against hapless all comers. Well, I was the spotty geek behind him smugly waiting for it to appear on the iPhone on an app that costs less than £2 and which includes all of the features of the original. The wait was worth it.

8. WestBang. For 59p you get some old style Western saloon doors which open to present you with a variety of goodies, baddies and innocent bystanders. Your mission is to shoot the right ones before they shoot you and leave the rest unharmed.

9. Cut the Rope. You need to solve a few puzzles and pull a few pulleys in order to get the sweet into the little guy’s open mouth. Just another day in the life of an iPhone gamer. The game costs 59p and is really good fun.

10. Castle Smasher. I think we can all admit that smashing medieval castles with catapults is something which appeals to us on some level. Well, for 59p you can now do it on your iPhone and make those long journeys that bit more soothing.
