The trio of Acer tablets announced by the company during MWC 2011 are heading to Vodafone Germany next month.
The Iconia A500, Iconia A100 and Iconia W500 devices will be available on Vodafone in Germany from April – as Steve Paine, owner and editor of CarryPad and UMPCPortal, confirmed on Twitter: “Just heard that acer iconia tablets a500, w500 and A100 are going to be available through Vodafone Germany. Mid-late April start.”
Two of the three new Acer Iconia tablets are Android based, with both the A500 and A100 running on the Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS. The A500 and A100 are similar tablets, although the A500 has a larger 10.1 inch display whereas the A100 sports a 7 inch screen. The A100 has less RAM, at 512MB versus the A500’s 1GB, and just 8GB of storage in contrast to the 16GB and 32GB A500 models.
In terms of features, the Iconia A500 and Iconia A100 come with a 5-megapixel camera and 2-megapixel front-facing snapper, support for 1080p HD video playback, Bluetooth 2.1, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, and HDMI output. Both tablets are powered by NVIDIA Tegra 2 processors too.
The Iconia W500 is Windows 7 based, with a 10.1 inch display, and AMD C-50 processor. The W500 comes with a keyboard and docking station, so you can effectively transform the tablet into a netbook.
Acer also unveiled a new smartphone during MWC, the Iconia Smart handset. Designed along similar lines to the Dell Streak, the Iconia Smart has a 4.8 inch display, Gingerbread OS, 8-megapixel camera and 1GHz Snapdragon processor.
There is no word on pricing yet or whether these Acer tablets will make their way to the UK, but we’ll keep you posted on all new announcements regarding the A500, A100 and W500 tablet devices.
