Since its launch during MWC, the matter of which processor the Samsung Galaxy S II will use has attracted much attention. Now NVIDIA has put an end to the rumours by announcing Samsung will use its dual-core Tegra 2 chip in some models of the Galaxy S II.
Speaking exclusively to ITProPortal, a NVIDIA spokesperson said that the Tegra 2 CPU will be used in some versions of the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone. The site states: “Nvidia showed us a presentation slide that mentioned three smartphone design wins for the Tegra 2 SoC, two of which had been previously announced (the Atrix 4G and the LG Optimus 2X) with a Samsung smartphone being the surprise.”
Originally, it was thought Samsung would use its own dual-core chip, the Exynos, for its Galaxy S successor. But now it seems likely the company will use the Exynos processor for some models while others will get the Tegra 2 chip.
ITProPortal said: “Samsung will use its own system on chip, the Exynos, in some of the of its forthcoming superphones and according to Pocket-lint, some territories will get the Tegra 2 instead; geographically separating both stock keeping units will go a long way towards eliminating confusion on the market.”
The Samsung Galaxy S II is already available on pre-order in the UK, costing £649.99 SIM-free from both Expansys and Play. In addition to a dual-core CPU, the Galaxy S II sports a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, TouchWiz 4.0 UI, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. Features include an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture support, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and NFC technology.
When Galaxy S II deals become available, you’ll be able to choose between 16GB and 32GB models.
