Sony Ericsson Xperia Play UK Release Delayed

March 31st, 2011 by Simon

The long awaited PlayStation Phone, the Xperia Play, was due for launch in the UK tomorrow but if rumours are to be believed many of us will have to wait a little while longer for this gaming delight. Sony Ericsson is insisting that the device will still be launched tomorrow as planned but problems with shipping and deliveries of the gaming smartphone have led Vodafone to abandon their scheduled launch.

The Xperia Play was due to become available on the Vodafone and Three networks tomorrow but a “freight issue” has meant that a limited number of the devices have managed to reach the UK in time. The two networks had been accepting pre-orders for the phone from a fortnight ago but have since had to inform many disgruntled buyers that they may have to wait until sometime next week to get their phones.

While Three has admitted that this is due to stock shortages caused by the freight problems Vodafone has not given any explanation for the delay, although it can be safely assumed that it is for the same reason. Although the shipping problems have caused less Xperia Play’s to make to the UK than Sony Ericsson had intended there are still a large number of the devices in the country and, as Sony Ericsson have been keen to point out, many people will still be able to pick one up from retailers across the country tomorrow.

O2 had earlier delayed their launch of the Xperia Play due to an unrelated software bug.
