This week has been a sensation-al one for HTC smartphone fans, as the super-powerful HTC Sensation was unveiled in its glory a few days ago. And the latest version of HTC’s Sense UI, Sense 3.0, was also introduced.
Explaining the new Sense UI, HTC said that this version “boasts a host of new features and enhancements, helping people to have more fun and get more done. For instance, HTC Sense introduces a customizable active lockscreen experience that transforms the lockscreen into a real-time window to the most important information and content, such as social updates, photos, weather or stock updates that are viewed by simply waking up the display. In addition, the new active lockscreen becomes a customizable gateway that lets people quickly jump to the most used features, like making a phone call, sending an email, taking a picture or anything else with the same quick gesture usually used to unlock the phone.”
Sense 3.0 also delivers an enhanced weather experience, one that is “cinematic and immersive”.
However, while this is great news for those of you planning to snap up HTC Sensation deals from next month onwards, for owners of current HTC models, the news is bad. HTC phones, including the HTC Desire S and HTC Desire HD won’t be getting HTC Sense 3.0.
In response to a query on Twitter – “what are that chances of seeing the rather nice Sense 3.0 on my Desire HD?” – HTC tweeted: “due to Sense’s hardware requirements, only our newest devices (Flyer, EVO 3D, Sensation) will be able to support it.”

The likely reason is that handsets with a 1GHz single-core processor don’t support this version of Sense – the Flyer, however, is okay possibly because its single-core CPU is 1.5GHz instead of 1GHz.
The HTC Sensation is a dual-core smartphone with a 4.3 inch display, launching first with Vodafone in May before hitting Three, Orange and T-Mobile, and O2 over the summer months.
