May 26th, 2011 by Caroline

The world’s first glasses-free 3D smartphone has landed!

The LG Optimus 3D is available to pre-order now through online retailer BuyMobilePhones, with prices starting from £25.54 per month on T-Mobile, £30 a month on Orange and Vodafone, and £32 a month on O2 – all with a free handset.

The mobile phone has a large 4.3 inch WVGA display, and lets you video, view and share 3D content easily on the device. On the back of the Optimus 3D is a dual 5-megapixel lens camera for capturing 3D content wherever you go. And you can view this footage on the phone’s screen or on a 3D TV or monitor using the inbuilt HDMI connection.

LG has also installed a dedicated YouTube 3D app on the device, so you can share your 3D videos with others instantly and easily on this special 3D channel.

The LG Optimus 3D phone promises to deliver “twice the graphics performance of its nearest competitor”. Powered by a 1GHz Arm Cortex A9 processor, the smartphone is swift and capable – or as LG puts it: “LG Optimus 3D is the world’s first smartphone to combine a dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory architecture. Equipped with OMAP4, showcasing the ultimate in speed, power and task efficiency among the latest dual-core processors, it stands as the most advanced, high-performing smartphone.”

Other features of this high-end 3D smartphone include Android 2.2 OS, upgradeable to Gingerbread, and all the usual Google goodies this entails. There is also a front-facing VGA camera so you can make video calls using the handset.

Introduced during MWC 2011, the Optimus 3D was unveiled alongside the Optimus Pad tablet which supports 3D video and sports an 8.9 inch display.

Is a 3D-capable phone for you? You can buy the LG Optimus 3D on pre-order now, with delivery expected to start in early June.
