10 Great iPhone Mobile TV and Radio Apps

May 27th, 2011 by Richard

We all love the telly and radio, don’t we? The news, the big sports games and our favourite soaps have simply got us hooked. Now if only someone could invent a way to get all of this entertainment onto an iPhone

Sky Mobile TV. This is a great way to watch all your favourite Sky channels on the go. The app is free and there is no annual contract but you need to cough up a monthly fee to get the service. Sky Sports and Sky News are probably the biggest draws here and if you are likely to miss a big game then this is a top way to catch it on the fly.

UK TV and Radio. This is another great little piece of software which gives you access to pre programmed UK channels. It costs a little over a pound and unlike the Sky one there is no ongoing charge.

TVCatchup.com. With this app you get to watch live telly from your basic BBC and ITV type Freeview channels. There are 28 channels and it is completely free to download and to use. You can also add it your PC and watch the TV that way too. Who needs an actual telly these days anyway?

TVULite. This is s free app and it gives you over 1000 channels from across the world. Cor blimey, bet they are all rubbish! Actually, you will spend a lot of time channel hopping but with so much variety on offer you will no doubt find something of interest . There are lots of niche channels and it could be good for foreign language students and people who just like to browse endlessly through unintelligible channels. The Lite version is just a trial and you need to pay a couple of quid for the real deal if you like it.

Classic FM. A free app which lets you listen to Classic FM while you go out skateboarding? Groovy.

Justin.tv. Something a bit different here, as a few pounds lets you access thousands of homemade channels and join in the chat. It started out life when the eponymous Justin broadcast his life to the world but now it is open to everyone. Good for passing some time seeing how seriously weird the world has become.

Spotify. Gives you a huge selection of music to choose from. The app is free but there is a monthly fee. This fee has led to a lot of negative comments about Spotify but few people complain about the music or the interface. Just a question of whether you think it is worth it really.

XFM. Listen to radio from London and Manchester wherever you are. Free of charge.

Last.fm. With this app you can create your own personalised radio station and then, well, listen to it we suppose. Completely free and very reliable.

Internet Radio Box. How many stations? Over 40,000? A list of features as long as an old fashioned Curly Wurly before they shrunk them and it only costs 59p? Need to have a look at this one.
