If you want an individual, capable but ultimately cheap smartphone, you might want to take a look at the Vodafone Smart handset.
Promoted on Vodafone’s Coming Soon page, the Vodafone Smart is expected to arrive with a fantastic PAYG price tag of just £70. And when you consider it features a 2.8 inch capacitive touchscreen, Android 2.2 OS, 2-megapixel camera, and a range of back covers – you’ll be able to buy different covers for the handset and can even design your own – we think that’s pretty reasonable!

When the budget smartphone was announced a few weeks ago, Patrick Chomet, Vodafone Group terminals director said, “Continuing to push the boundaries through our own-brand range, the Vodafone Smart is a new smartphone concept. It takes the higher end mobile internet experience and packages it for the mass market, its range of covers and accessories making it a fun fashion statement. Available on pay as you go plans, and on the fast, reliable Vodafone networks, the Vodafone Smart is a great step-up into the world of mobile data.”
The home screen on the Smart comes pre-loaded with instant access to social networking sites Twitter and Facebook, email, Vodafone’s Prepay Manager for easy top-ups, Vodafone Music, and the Updates widget which offers a shortlist of leading Android Market apps.
And speaking of Android, the Vodafone Smart phone also has access to more than 150,000 apps in the Android Market as well as various Google goodies such as Google Maps.
You’ll be able to snap-up the Vodafone Smart on PAYG very soon. If you’re tempted by this budget smartphone, you can head on over to Vodafone’s website to register for updates on launch date details.
