With the busy lives we all lead nowadays it is harder than ever to set aside time to get some exercises done or watch what we eat. However, there is something we carry about with us all the time which might just help. That’s right; your smart phone can help you work out too. Let’s check out some of the best apps which will help you stay in tip top condition.
| Lose It! | The developers claim that 85% of their app’s users lose weight and that the average user has shed more than 12 pounds. The interface is smart and simple and lets you easily track your diet or exercise regime. You just put in the details of what you eat (or are planning to eat) and it keeps a track of your calories. You can also put in details of the exercises and activities you do. The app is free to download for the Apple iPhone and the team say that they are working hard on getting an Android version out soon too. | ![]() |

| Fast Food Calories Counter. | This app is similar to the first one but with a few differences. Firstly, it costs around a pound. Secondly, it works on both Android phones and the iPhone. Thirdly, it only covers fast food calories. So maybe it’s not so similar after all then. Anyway, when you are wandering past whatever place gives you a regular grease hit just look up this app and see how much fat and how little good stuff you would be getting if you went in. It’s a bit US oriented with the burger joints listed but you can still maybe find enough scary figures to put you off those greasy chicken wings and chips. | ![]() ![]() |
| Hundred Push Ups. | Ok, let’s forget about the dieting, if knowing what those fast food fixes give you doesn’t really put you off all that much. Instead, let’s get fit the old fashioned way. Doing push ups. You start off nice and gently and then the app builds you to an exhausting 100 consecutive push ups. Can you do it? Spend a quid on the program and you will find out. It is a simple app which might be too basic for some people but if you own an iPhone or an Android and want a bit of extra motivation it could be right for you. | ![]() ![]() |
| Bupa Fitness. | This is a free app for iPhone users who want to get themselves in shape. You start off by assessing your current physical condition (flexibility, strength, core stability and balance). You then get given a four week plan which is based on your own specific needs. There are videos, fitness facts and even social network integration. Worth a try we think. | ![]() |
| Lose Weight Hypnosis. | Have you ever been hypnotised by your Android phone or iPhone? If you haven’t then this is your chance. Hypnosis is regarded by many people to be the best way to address the underlying reasons which make us over eat and fail with our diets. The interface is pretty, the app is free and there is even a background brainwave setting, which all apps should have on them really. | ![]() ![]() |
| iFootpath. | This is a relatively new iPhone app which the developers promise to keep on expanding. It basically gives users the chance to share their favourite UK walks with other walkers. There is GPS functionality and there are currently over 30 walks on the app, which you can add more to if you like. The directions are easy to follow and there are some photos. It isn’t the only walking app around but if you want a feel a part of the walker’s community then you might like this one. | ![]() |
