Which Phone Should I Buy For Facebook?

July 5th, 2011 by Thomas

Unless you’re one of those ‘I haven’t got time for Facebook’ people you’ll probably spend a good chunk of your online pastime using the definitive social network to catch up with what your friends and family have been up to.

And with most of us possessing a web-ready phone, you can carry Facebook around in your pocket and remain plugged into the social community all day long.

But which handset offers the best mobile Facebook experience?

Here are my three best in show.

Apple iPhone 4

The beauty of the iPhone’s default Facebook App is in its simplicity. There’s nothing particularly flashy or eye-catching about how it – it just works.

It seems to load photo galleries quicker than many of its rivals and images always look vibrant and crisp on that stunning Retina display.

Apple understand what the majority of mobile Facebook users want; an efficient app that doesn’t rely on gimmicks or unnecessary extras.

Certainly for the core Facebook experience, it’s hard to beat the iPhone.

Samsung Galaxy S II

It’s difficult to single out one Android phone but the Galaxy S II just does everything a little bit quicker and more stylishly than its fellow Google OS counterparts.

You have a wealth of Faceook Apps to choose from but the most popular one (Facebook for Android) is a strong offering, although loading images can sometimes be arduous.

Samsung also have their own Facebook application, which funnily enough is good for displaying images, but not great at everything else.

You also get Social Hub with the S II that takes all your Facebook and Twitter updates and puts them in one convenient place. It’s a nifty piece of kit but needs some work.

Samsung Omnia 7

If the Windows Phone 7 operating system was ever going to succeed, it needed a strong Facebook offering and fortunately for them, they have the very best.

Their Facebook for Windows Phone 7 app is above and beyond anything Android or Apple are currently offering, making the most of touchscreen technology and incorporating a delicious swipe interface, which allows you to leisurely explore.

Swipe through your news stream, wall, info, albums, photos and pages with ease in beautifully rendered surroundings. Yes, it’s Facebook mobile, but it just looks and functions so much better.

And to get the most out of this awesome app you need the best Windows touchscreen phone and that’s currently the Samsung Omnia 7.

Result

3rd place – Has to be the Galaxy S II. I just feel that Android in general is playing catch-up when it comes to Facebook. Someone will eventually develop a top-notch app, but they just haven’t cracked it yet.

2nd place – The ‘Facebook for iPhone’ app is smart, efficient and so, so easy to use. It shows you don’t need to go over the top, just get the simple things right. But for once, the iPhone doesn’t reign supreme.

1st place – For sheer innovation, the Facebook app on Windows Phone 7 deserves the crown. Swiping up, down and sideways is just a dream and is unquestionably the best way to experience Facebook on the move. Get the Omnia 7 to make the most of it.
