New Phones Announced: Sony Ericsson Neo V and Two Nokia Handsets

August 25th, 2011 by Caroline

Both Sony Ericsson and Nokia have unveiled new devices that will be heading your way in the coming months.

The successor to the Xperia neo smartphone released earlier this year, Sony Ericsson has introduced the Xperia neo V. This handset will be one of the first new phones to launch with the latest version of Android Gingerbread OS, 2.3.4. In addition, the neo V will be powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and come with high-end attributes including a 5-megapixel camera and front-facing camera. The main snapper also boasts a 16x digital zoom, LED flash and HD video support.

Sony Ericsson will be rolling out the software upgrade to all 2011 Xperia smartphones from October onwards. This will deliver a number of improvements including Google Talk, Video Chat and 3D sweep panorama technology.

“With this software upgrade, we are bringing a wealth of new and really entertaining experiences to all our 2011 Xperia  smartphones, including those already in consumers’ hands today,” said Nikolaus Scheurer, head of product marketing at Sony Ericsson.

“Our users will get to enjoy new features from Google, an even richer Facebook integration, and enhanced camera functionality from Sony.”

The new Nokia devices are not in the same league as the Symbian Belle smartphones introduced previously. These two are all about affordability rather than nifty abilities.

The Nokia 100 and Nokia 101 are the company’s most affordable phones to-date and combine functionality with a small price.

Mary McDowell, executive vice president, mobile phones, Nokia commented: “We recognize that for many of the next billion people, a phone purchase is an investment. People are looking for a phone that offers great features but also one that is dependable. When paired with powerful and locally relevant services such as Nokia Life Tools, the Nokia 101 and Nokia 100 offer a unique experience that is simply unmatched in their markets at these price points.”

The Nokia 101 is a dual-SIM handset and can connect to two different networks to receive calls and messages. The SIM manager function enables you to choose which card to use to make a call or send a text, and the phone can save up to 5 SIM card details.

Other features include a music player, 103 Phon loudspeaker and up to 16GB of internal space. Scheduled for release in Q3, the Nokia 101 should cost in the region of €25 and come in Phantom Black or Coral Red colour options.

The Nokia 100 boasts a grid-based menu system and a very small price tag of around €20. This phone is due to be released in Q4 and will be offered in an array of colours including Legion Blue, Festival Pink and Phantom Black.
